Spiral Garden

We can all agree that Spiral Gardens are magical looking. The shape conveys something mystical and intriguing. Spirals have an effect on our subconscious and there are many reasons why, for these purposes, lets say it is a natural geometrical shape compose of different mathematical equations that resonate with our DNA in a quantum level.

The same happens with chemical composition of plants and other organisms. Planting in spiral shape formation enables the creation of many microclimates. Sunlight and the elements will affect the plants in different ways in relation to their location. The sun will hit some plants creating shades for others and depending on the planting mathematical logic we can control the light each plant receives and the same with the elements. The moisture will also vary depending on the area and the structure of the spiral, and this also allows livable conditions for many microorganisms that will benefit the whole ecosystem of the garden. It gives the opportunity to garden many different plants in a relatively small space, plus it looks good.

There are many ways to plant a Spiral Garden and they can even be elevated from the ground. When planting one, remember to take into consideration what kind of plants or herbs you would like to have, find the right location with plenty hours of sunlight, and if you would like to add a witchy “factor” into the mix. Whatever you decide, remember these basic rules for better results.

Beginning in the center of the Spiral plant the larger/longer plants and/or those that need less sunlight. Continue with plants that have longer roots, this will help hold the Spiral “together” as the roots “braid” with each other. Finish with crawling plants and those that need more sunlight.

For small to medium size space:

“Woody” or “Hardy” plants and herbs such as chamomile and rosemary act as a barrier between crawling plants (plant around the edges) and larger/longer plants (plant in the center or at the highest part) and it also makes it easier for reach.

For the ones with more space:

If you have enough space and want to have a Spiral Garden that you can walk around and/or inside, first decide if you want it private so that the larger/longer plants are on the edges and crawling plants in the center (in which case remember to consider the sunlight factor) or vice versa.

Whatever you decide is better for you and your garden, always keep in mind the sun and how it will hit at certain hours which plants, and remember to not plant near a tree with shade.

To add that Witchy factor, use crystals, statutes, and mushrooms, gnomes, art, epithets or whatever you like the way it resonates with you, always keeping in mind the four corners, the Elements and astrological positions. Always seed, weed, and harvest according to the Sabbats and moon cycles.

You can use stones, blocks, shells, quartz crystals, wood, water, cord, cotton, hemp, beach glass and many other materials to trace the spiral and go from there. Add windchimes, water fountains, bird houses, mosaics; use your creativity and intuition, and try to recycle or reuse.

*Always keep in mind the soil conditions and birds or other animals that frequent the area.

Do you like Spiral Gardens? What would you plant?

May this help someone

Blessed be
