As many empaths I was blessed with the trials of patience. Growing up it was more like I had little patience and then after all the traumas and DV, it became Anxiety and I mean 2 packs of cigarettes daily; I think about it now and it grosses me out. Plus, the life that I was living did not helped at all. When I decided I needed to change my life, my Anxiety was one of the things that it was harder to deal with. To heal from all my pain, honestly, I became a Hermit living in the city, so the staying at home when it was “forced” by an internal and not a world “pandemic” -made me want to climb up the walls a few times, but I remained focused on what I needed to do. I learned to deal with my anxiety, and slowly but surely it turned back into “little patience”, it was no longer the can’t-breathe-weight-on-my-shoulders-freaking-out-wanting-to-tear-up-my-skin kind of thing. I know that many can relate to that, and know how hard it is to function while feeling like that, it took me a while to learn how to deal with it, so if you are having trouble too, maybe what I learned during that time might help you.
1. Breathe. This is what everybody says, I know. But its true. Breathing deeply is what will stop the moment for a second, that is long enough for you to remind yourself what to do next. But remember is not just breathing, there are many techniques, for this one: as soon as you feel the anxiety rising, bring the air slowly to your stomach, pushing it outward as you fill it up with air, at the same rhythm, exhale. Breath again, this time bringing the air to your thorax, expanding the ribs as you breathe and exhale slowly again. One last breath this time your chest rises as the air comes in, exhale slowly.
2. Stand straight and grab the floor with your feet: use your yogi toes (stretch the toes and open them) to grab the floor, and push downward with your heels (the arch feels like its being lifted from the inside of your leg). Hold it for as long as you can or need, while trying to focus on how your lower body feels.
It is a simple but effective technique that helped me thru many difficult times, may it help you too.
Blessed be.
